In the Google Search Central live event that happened on 9th of April 2025 in Madrid, Google revealed that “Google Discover is coming on Desktop Search as well”.

Well, so far users access Google Discover in their mobile devices across Google App and Chrome’s homepage.

However, now soon they are going to use this feature in their desktop search as well.

Here is a sneak peak of how this feature appears on desktop.

Well, this is not the first time Google tests Google Discover for desktop but this is the first time they officially confirmed that this feature is coming for desktop devices.

What is Google Discover?

Those of you who don’t know, Google Discover is a personalized experience that shows you content based on what you see in the past (basically your browsing history).

Technically it is a feed that appears at different places like Google App, google.com on phones, and Chrome’s new tab. And, it suggests content at these places based on your browsing history.

How is this new feature going to impact SEO?

As of early 2025, 3.69 billion users use Google Chrome on their desktop devices. And, since this feature is going to be part of Chrome’s new tab, you can safely say this feature is going to skyrocket.

How to track traffic coming from Google Discover?

You can track the traffic coming from Google Discover in Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

Here is the steps you can follow to do the same:

  1. Set Up a page referrer filter for pubsub2 traffic that primarily means traffic coming from Google Discover. However, applying only this filter will show Google Discover traffic coming from both the devices.
  2. So, you have to apply the Desktop filter as well to clip the traffic only coming from Google Discover desktop version.

Right now, Google Search Console doesn’t facilitate filters by device type in the Discover section. However, we believe as soon as this feature goes live, GSC might implement this functionality.
